Splendid private gardens open up

The Canal Museums of Amsterdam present the Open Garden Days 2011 in the city centre.
Yearly, every third weekend of June about 30 most private gardens will be open to the public, some of them for the first time.

Hidden behind the stately facades along the Amsterdam canals lies one of the best kept secrets of Amsterdam. If one looks behind the impressive canal side homes one steps into a completely different world. An oasis of quiescence and green welcomes the visitor.
Many renowned architects have occupied themselves to turn gardens into true pleasure grounds. During the Open Garden Days 2011 the most beautiful treasures can be visited.

Each year the proceeds of the Open Garden Days will go to a charitable cause; this year to the acquisition of the coach house which belonged to the Museum Van Loon. Its temple like front immediately draws the visitor’s attention when entering the 1672 house. When the coach house is reunited with the house the public can enjoy a complete and unique complex of canal house, garden and coach house.

N.B. Most gardens regretfully are not accessible to wheel chairs and perambulators. Dogs are not allowed.
